Boutique MBA Admissions Consulting · Est. 2009

The strategist's edge in MBA admissions — engineered for executives who refuse to settle for average.

Walsh MBA is the boutique firm founded by a former M7 associate director of admissions. We cap our roster, principal-review every word, and do not ghostwrite a single sentence. If you are treating the MBA as a deliberate career investment, this is where that work begins.

A Founder's Note

What this firm is — and is not.

There is an entire industry of MBA consultants who will sell you a six-package sprint, hand you a template, and disappear before your interview. We are not that firm, and we are not interested in becoming it.

Walsh MBA Admissions Consulting was founded in 2009 by Maren Walsh, then seven years into a seated interviewer role at a top-three business school. The operating principle has not changed: every client gets a capped roster, the principal consultant reviews every word, every resume line, every mock interview, and we do not ghostwrite essays under any circumstance. We will tell you which sentences to cut. We will tell you when your positioning is weak. We will, on occasion, advise a client to wait a cycle.

We accept a maximum of forty clients per calendar year. We are not the largest consultancy by volume, and we never intend to be. What we are is the firm a McKinsey EM, a Goldman VP, or a BCG associate calls when the stakes are real and the average agency will not do.

If you want a coach who will draft your story for you, there are cheaper options. If you want a strategist who will engineer it with you — and who has personally sat on the other side of the table — keep reading.

The Walsh Method

A repeatable four-step IP, not a six-package template.

The same methodology that has produced 1,847 admits, applied to every engagement regardless of school target or candidacy profile.

  1. 01

    Diagnostic Read

A full audit of your resume, transcript, GMAT/GRE record, and preliminary narrative before a single essay is drafted. Surfaces the 71-point GMAT lift opportunity and the positioning gaps before we commit to a thesis.

  2. 02

    Positioning Architecture

We engineer your “why MBA, why now, why this school” spine. A single, defensible narrative that survives every recommender, every essay prompt, every 30-minute interview.

  3. 03

    Essay & Resume Engineering

Line-by-line essay surgery on a 14-point rubric. You draft; we edit. No ghostwriting — ever. The principal consultant reviews every word across 22,000+ essays read in our team's history.

  4. 04

    Interview Rubric

Filmed mock interviews scored on a 14-point rubric by former admissions officers and Fortune 500 behavioral interviewers. Reviewed line-by-line until your walk-in feels like a rehearsal.

Is This For You?

An honest self-qualifier — read until one of these sounds like you.

Walsh MBA is built for a specific kind of candidate. If you recognize yourself in one of the archetypes below, the strategy call will be the highest-leverage ninety minutes of your cycle.

Archetype 01

The Sponsored Executive

McKinsey, Bain, BCG, Google, Goldman Sachs, or Amazon's Career Choice — funded, vetted, and accountable to an employer's pre-approval list. 92% of our sponsored candidates land at a school ranked at or above their employer's pre-approval list.

Archetype 02

The Career Switcher

Consulting to product, banking to climate, military to operations. You need a narrative that explains the pivot without flinching. We have engineered this story dozens of times across M7 and T15 admits.

Archetype 03

The Re-Applicant

Denied or dinged after interview, often at HBS or Wharton. The good news: re-applicants admit at higher rates when they re-apply with intent. The bad news: most re-apply with the same essay. We rebuild from positioning down.

Archetype 04

The International Operator

INSEAD, LBS, or a US M7 with a non-US trajectory. Time-zone-flexible scheduling across our NYC, SF, and London senior strategists. Six alumni interviewers on call for cross-border mock drills.

Archetype 05

The Underrepresented Voice

First-generation, URM, LGBTQ+, or a non-traditional industry background. Positioning work that honors the full arc of your record — without leaning on any program as a backstop for narrative gaps.

Archetype 06

The L&D Leader

Sourcing this firm on behalf of a high-potential cohort. We run employer partnerships with named programs across Fortune 500 L&D teams and can scope multi-seat engagements with a single point of contact.

The Principal

Seven years inside a top-three admissions office. Sixteen years on this side of the table.

Before founding Walsh MBA, Maren served as Associate Director of Admissions at a top-three business school and as a seated interviewer from 2002 to 2009. She has personally read, scored, and given feedback on more than 22,000 MBA essays — and she reviews every word her firm produces.

The firm's posture is direct because the principal has lived both sides. She knows what an admissions committee rewards, what a seated interviewer probes for, and which essay lines trigger a polite defer to the waitlist. That perspective — not a six-package sales deck — is the product.

“The MBA is a deliberate career investment, not a credential. We treat it that way — with the candor and the rigor that investment deserves.”

— Maren Walsh, Founder
